CITIZEN
SPEED
WATCH
PROGRAM
In an effort to cut down on speeding through our neighborhood streets,
DRCA is working with the Arlington County Police Department on the
“Citizen Speed Watch” program. Eighteen DRCA neighbors have been trained to operate special
radar equipment, which has been used on some of DRCA’s busy
thoroughfares (26th/31st Streets, Military Road,
Lorcom Lane) in an effort to curb speeding.
Drivers clocked exceeding the speed limit by 11 miles an hour or
more are noted by the three-member speed watch team, which turns over
license plate numbers to the Arlington police.
Those drivers then receive a letter from the police (go HERE)
advising them of the infraction.
So far, dozens of drivers have received these advisory letters. Many neighbors on the monitored streets have expressed
gratitude to the DRCA “speed watchers” for their efforts to stop
speeding through the Donaldson Run area.
If you would like to participate in this program, please contact
Citizen Speed Watch chairman Mike Green at 703-352-3944.
Volunteers must participate in a short training program put on by
the Arlington County Police on the operation of the radar equipment.
