Agenda:  NC Plan update, Bylaws review

December Meeting

The December meeting of the DRCA will be held on a Tuesday evening instead of the normal Wednesday evening. Wednesday, December 15th is the date of the Winter Concert at Taylor Elementary School. The meeting will include an update by the NC Plan committee and a review of the DRCA Bylaws. The Bylaws were last reviewed in 1991 and past board member, Peter Raven-Hansen, is in charge of the review. The election of new officers for  the coming year will be held at the February 23rd DRCA meeting.

Minutes of November Meeting

The DRCA meeting held on November 17th featured a presentation on Potomac Overlook Regional Park, an update from Donaldson Run’s community-based police officer, and an overview on the progress of the Neighborhood Conservation Plan (NCP).

Potomac Overlook Naturalist Martin Ogle provided the gathered group with a fascinating overview of the neighborhood’s history and geography, as well as an accounting of some of the programs offered at the Park. His presentation included showing the group a

fossil found during the digging of the Donaldson Run Pool. Upcoming events include the winter concert series and a storytelling program.

Cpl. Pat Donahue, DRCA’s designated officer under the Community-based Policing Program, reported that after-dark car break-ins are on the rise in North Arlington, though not in the immediate Donaldson Run Area. However, he advised neighbors to

remember to lock their cars, and urged residents to be vigilant to any suspicious activity or noise in the wee hours. The non-emergency police number is 558-2222.

Ned Rhodes, chairman of the DRCA NCP committee, and several NCP committee members then provided an update on the NC survey results. (See article on page 3).

In other action, DRCA President Peter Fallon reported on a meeting he had attended of our neighboring Waverly Hills Civic Association regarding the proposed purchase and renovation of the Lorcom Arms Apartments (just behind the Lee Heights Shops) by the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing  (APAH). Waverly Hills has passed a resolution supporting the proposal. DRCA members voted to back Waverly Hills by passing a resolution “supporting in principle the purchase by APAH of the Lorcom Arms Apartments subject to any additional conditions necessary to satisfy the Waverly Hills Civic Association.”
