February Meeting

Due to the inclement weather in January, the meeting scheduled for January 26th was cancelled. The Agenda for the January meeting has been moved to the February meeting. Elections for new officers will be held at the March meeting of the DRCA.

Neighborhood Conservation Plan

I wish to thank all those who took the time
to read the first draft of the Neighborhood Conservation Plan (NC Plan) and to make comments. The team incorporated all the submitted comments and published second draft on Jan 25. This draft was also submitted to the County for comment. If there is anyone who is interested in reading Draft 2, you can email me (rhodesn@softsysgrp.com) for instructions on how to download a copy to review. You can also go to the Cherrydale Library and read and review the copy that is there. The County’s comments will be incorporated into the final NC Plan.

Once the Plan is finalized, the Civic Association will vote to approve the Plan. At that point there are two additional approval steps before the plan can be formally submitted to the County Board. First, the NC Plan must be submitted to the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee (NCAC) for its comments and approval. After we have incorporated those comments into the Plan, we will present it to the

County Planning Commission. After its review and approval, the NC Plan will then be submitted to the County Board for approval. At that point we can then start to prioritize our plans and work to get them funded.

As you can see, the publication of the NC Plan is just the first step in the process, but a very important one. The Plan becomes our blueprint for the implementation of Neighborhood Conservation projects. As always, we will need volunteers to help with the planning and implementation phase of the Plan.

See you all at the February meeting.
